死ぬるまで彼の地かクリスマスカード

もう何十年も海外で暮らしている知人いるが、この先どうするのだろう。

毎年毎年この時期になるとカードを送ってくれるが、雰囲気からすればもうそのままそちらで骨を埋める腹を据えたようにも思える。
そこのところは具体的にはふれてないが、たまに帰国したときの口ぶりで何となくわかるような気がする。
人間どこで死のうが死にゆく者にとってはどうでもいいことであるが、問題は死後構ってくれる人がどこにいるかであり、迷惑だけはかけられないのだ。
海外が長ければ子供たちも日本とは疎遠になることだし、やはり子供たちの近くで死ぬることが一番の子孝行となるのは間違いない。
かくいう自分も、己のわがままで子供たちのいる東京を捨ててきたのだが。

鶏食はぬわれに縁なしクリスマス

今日はクリスマスだという。

クリスチャンでもなく、小さい子もいない我が家には全く縁がない行事。鳥嫌いだから七面鳥はおろかチキンすらなく、甘い物をおさえているのでケーキもない。まったく普通の夜である。
